Clemson-Alabama Vegas odds trends, picks |
Clemson can continue a pretty remarkable trend Jan. 1 versus Alabama (8:45 p.m. ET, ESPN). Some folks aren’t betting on that, however.
The No. 1 Tigers opened as a 1.5-point underdog and that’s stretched to 2.5 points. During a school-history-making run, that marks an eighth-straight bowl or Playoff matchup where Clemson has been the underdog, which has been far from bad luck. In those previous seven games, Clemson has outperformed the spread every time and won 6-of-7 straight-up – averaging a 16.5-point margin of victory. In this game, ESPN writer David Purdum cited William Hill sports book Wednesday for 58 percent of the bets and 88 percent of the money coming in on Alabama. Earlier in the week, Purdum reported from MGM sportsbooks that eight times as much money was being bet there on the Crimson Tide, but the overall bets were 50-50 between the teams. Among college football analysts, CBS Sports is split on Clemson making it eight-straight Vegas upsets, with three taking the Tigers, and three, the Crimson Tide. SB Nation’s projection model takes Alabama against the spread, in a 26-22 final. Yahoo’s Pat Forde likes Clemson in a close one, 23-21, and then a bigger margin over Georgia in the title game.
